My friend Sally recently told me about the extraordinary work of Natalie Chanin, who has a lovely company called Alabama Chanin. She and her community create amazing pieces (clothing to home goods) focusing on slow design and sustainability. Everything is "grown to sewn" in the USA (mostly Florence, Alabama). In addition to selling their wares straight up, you can also buy one of their DIY kits, which are obviously more affordable. Here are a few of my favorites: Skirt, Bandana, and T-Shirt.
Beth Cyr Jewelry
My main project this week was re-doing Beth Cyr's website! She and I go way back to our college photography classes. She's a super-talented jewelry designer based in Athens. She just wanted something simple, with correct contact info and links! Check it out!
A Dream Studio
I've always been super intrigued by this photo that has been in one of my "inspiration" folders for a few years. I can't remember where I first saw the image (probably Design*Sponge or Apartment Therapy). I don't have to wonder about what goes on inside that sweet backyard studio anymore! I just saw this article in The New York Times! It's the studio of ceramicist Lisa Neimeth and I was delighted to find that she's based in San Francisco... what a small world. Here are a few more photos of her studio and her ceramics!
Friday Finds: Royal Buffet
I spent part of my night looking for awesome things on the internet (and watching Project Runway). I was stopped in my tracks when I found the sweet, sweet work of Mollie Greene and her Royal Buffet Etsy Shop (I saw the mobiles on oh, hello friend). She makes beautiful mobiles, wreaths, puppets, and more out of recycled paper (including books and French magazines). Everything is really just delightful!! Here are a few photos from her shop…
